Accessibility statement

My commitment

I want everyone to be able to read and use this website, including people who navigate with a keyboard, use a screen reader or screen magnifier, enlarge text or prefer reduced motion. My target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

Conformance status

jaspreetkaur.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Partially conformant means that some content does not yet fully meet the standard. The known issues are listed below, together with what I am doing about them.

What the site does

Structure. Every page has one main heading, a logical heading order in its templates and labelled landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer. A skip link lets keyboard users jump straight to the content.

Keyboard use. All links, buttons and menus work with a keyboard and show a clear 3px focus outline. On small screens the menu opens as an overlay that keeps focus inside it and closes with the Escape key.

Colour and text. All text meets the WCAG AA contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1; most combinations are well above it. Colour is never the only way information is shown.

Zoom and small screens. Pages reflow down to 320 CSS pixels wide without sideways scrolling and remain usable with text enlarged to 200%.

Motion and links. Smooth scrolling is switched off for people who ask their device to reduce motion. Link text describes where each link goes.

Known limitations

Code samples. Long lines in code examples scroll sideways inside the code box. In some browsers that box cannot be scrolled with the keyboard alone.

Embedded content. Some articles embed live examples or media from other services, such as CodeSandbox, whose accessibility I do not control. Embedded content loads only after you agree to it in the cookie banner or placeholder, and the code or information it shows is also included in the article itself.

Linked websites. Links to other websites take you to pages this statement does not cover.

Compatibility

The site uses standard, semantic HTML and CSS, and is designed to work with current versions of the major browsers and with assistive technologies that follow web standards. It is not designed for older browsers such as Internet Explorer.

How this statement was prepared

This statement is based on a self-assessment against WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The templates and pages were checked with keyboard testing, automated checks for structure, alternative text and colour contrast, and a manual review at different screen sizes. It has not yet been reviewed by an independent auditor.

New articles are checked for headings, image descriptions, link text and colour contrast before they are published, and this statement is reviewed at least once a year.
